Proposed Statewide Pesticide Notification System

The Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) is in the initial development phase to create a statewide pesticide notification system. Pilot projects are underway in Riverside, Santa Cruz, Stanislaus, and Ventura Counties to test elements of a proposed notification system.

In addition to the pilot projects, earlier in the summer, DPR held three virtual public workshops to collect feedback on a proposed design for the statewide notification system. You can view a list of the proposed design elements for the Statewide Pesticide Application Notification System HERE.

This preliminary work for the notification system is funded through an allocation of $10 million provided in the 2021-2022 state budget.

Ag Council is part of a coalition that submitted comments to DPR about the proposed notification system. Specifically, we highlight the fact that California has the most thorough and scientific pesticide approval process in the world and ask that the notification system be limited to restricted use pesticides, as well as focused on notification to those who live within the notification boundaries. Further, we urge an opt-in notification (not automatic) and request that notifications not be more than 24 hours in advance to ensure accuracy, among other issues.
