UnitedAg Holds First-Ever 5k Walk for Scholarship Program

On the morning of Oct. 15, over 60 members, family and friends of UnitedAg, a local agricultural trade association, gathered at Waller Park for a 5k walk to raise funds for the Agribusiness Education Foundation Scholarship Program. This first-ever regional event was attended by local agricultural companies, including Babe Farms, Innovative Produce, Plantel Nurseries and Rancho Guadalupe. Nearly $3,000 was raised. "The walkathons provide an opportunity to connect with our future ag leaders," said Veronica Urzua, Human Resources director, Pacific International Vegetable Marketing in Salinas.

In 2000, UnitedAg founded the Agribusiness Education Foundation (AEF) for the purpose of helping members, employees of members and their families pave their way to educational and future success. The AEF provides financial assistance to advance the educational goals of UnitedAg members, their employees and their employees’ dependents (children and grandchildren).

Since its inception, UnitedAg has awarded more than $1,194,000 in scholarship support to some 660 students. Previous scholarship winners have taken their place in management, government, market development, and foreign trade. Ensuring the future of agriculture is the mission of the Agribusiness Education Foundation.
